Monitoring File Transfer Protocol (FTP) Servers
File Transfer Protocol (FTP) is a network protocol used to transfer data from one computer to another through a network, such as the Internet.
FTP is a file transfer protocol for exchanging and manipulating files over any TCP-based computer network. A FTP client may connect to a FTP server to manipulate files on that server.
As there are many FTP client and server programs available for different operating systems, FTP is a popular choice for exchanging files independent of the operating systems involved.
You might want to monitor your FTP Server to ensure its availability and performance; but also to identify and prevent misuse.

To monitor an FTP Server in Site Watcher enter the IP Address of the Server, set the Type to 'Port Ping' and enter Port 21.

To monitor an FTP Server in TIM or BAM set the Type to 'Server Monitoring', the Server Type to 'TCP IP', the Measure Type to 'Port Ping', and enter the IP Address of the Server and use Port 21.

Site Watcher , Tech Infrastructure Monitor and Business Activity Monitor can all monitor FTP Servers

BOOTP
The Bootstrap Protocol, or BOOTP, is a UDP network protocol used by a network device to obtain its IP address automatically. This usually occurs when a computer is starting up. The BOOTP servers assign the IP address from a pool of addresses to each client.
